Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Contribute to and facilitate the development of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching material for all the degree programmes that are supported by the Department of Human, Biological & Translational Medical Sciences;
  • Implement innovative teaching methodologies, including online and blended learning platforms.
  • Contribute to and facilitate undergraduate and postgraduate assessment and examinations as directed by the Department;
  • Drive research excellence through the development of research proposals and securing research grant applications, supervising postgraduate students, publication of research findings in high-impact journals, and participation in conferences; 
  • Provide academic leadership within the department, mentoring junior staff.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and service to the broader community.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department in alignment with institutional goals and priorities.
Requirements

Associate Professor:  a relevant PhD degree in Physiology coupled with three (3) years of service as a Senior Lecturer and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to academic and wider community. A cumulative record of seventeen (17) publications of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since becoming Senior Lecturer; Of these, at least three (3) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.  

Professor:  a relevant PhD degree in Physiology coupled with three (3) years of service as an Associate Professor and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to academic and wider community. A cumulative and sustained record of twenty-five (25) publications of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since attaining the grade of Associate Professor; Of these, at least six (6) of the publications must be refereed journal articles. 

Desirable Requirements:

  • A teaching qualification in Higher Education or Evidence of Teaching Excellence.
  • Commitment to academic leadership and governance.
  • Active engagement in community service, professional consultancy, and national and international academic collaborations, fostering research partnerships and societal impact.
