Job Description
  1. The incumbent needs to provide high-level academic, innovative, enterprising, and research-driven leadership, focusing on achieving outstanding academic standards in line with the University’s mission, vision, and strategy of the Faculty. 
  2. The incumbent will be required to manage the Faculty as a Business Unit to become a self-sustaining, viable and resilient business unit of the University. Provide strong academic leadership in delivering quality teaching, research, publications, resource mobilisation and community engagement and the development of viable academic programmes which are responsive to the socio-economic development needs of Namibia and Africa at large. 
  3. The successful candidate will need to make decisions which optimise the viability and academic performance of the Faculty within the mission, vision and strategy of the University. The incumbent will be part of the University Management and need to provide high-level academic leadership and effective and efficient management and administration for the Faculty regarding its financial resources, human capital and all academic programmes. 
  4. The Executive Dean is responsible for the overall execution of management and leadership of the three (3) Divisions (Academic Affairs, Research, Innovation and Development and Administration and Finance), leading the development and overseeing the implementation of the strategic plan of the Faculty (and campus where applicable) in line with the overall strategic plan of the University. Developing and implementing effective and efficient governance, administrative and financial structures, fostering an entrepreneurial work culture amongst the staff and students, is necessary to advance each component of UNAM’s mission and strategy in line with the institutional values. 
  5. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that a conducive physical infrastructural environment for innovative teaching, learning and study, groundbreaking and cutting-edge research in the Faculty. 
Requirements
  • The candidate should at least be at the Senior Lecturer level with a PhD and leadership experience in higher education. 
  • The candidate must have a good track record of teaching, research and community service in a university environment and a proven track record of resource mobilisation. 
  • Evidence of commitment towards realising the university’s vision, mission and strategic goals, high standards of research, teaching and publications must be provided. 
  • The following key skills are required: leadership, financial, communication, interpersonal, mentoring, teamwork, innovation, problem-solving, and building trust. 
  • At least eight (8) years’ academic experience, of which 4 years should be at the management level. 
  • The successful candidate should be a strong individual who commands the respect of his/her peers, and has outstanding leadership, Interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, combined with excellent digital fluency, organising, planning, analytical, fundraising, administrative and managerial skills and an understanding of the national and international roles of universities. 

SCREENING OF CANDIDATES: 

  • The applicants for the post will be screened and short-listed by a Search Committee. The selection process will involve scrutinising the candidates’ Curriculum Vitae and a vision paper, and an interview. All candidates must submit a paper (max. of 3-4 typed pages) on his/ her vision, mission and strategic goals over the next five (5) years and provide efficient and effective services to the respective Faculty. 
  • The top candidates may be required to deliver a seminar to the University Community, through which they will be afforded an opportunity to demonstrate their preparedness, promise, and suitability for the position of Executive Dean. 
  • The applications should include a full Curriculum Vitae (with a full list of scholarly publications and evidence of resource mobilization clearly indicated), names and contact details of two referees, who are familiar with the candidate’s accomplishments.
