Job Description
  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Petrology and related areas within the Geology curriculum;
  • Contribute to the review, development, and continuous improvement of geology curricula and academic programmes;
  • Supervise honours, master’s and doctoral students and mentor early-career academics where appropriate;
  • Develop and maintain an active and productive research programme leading to publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals;
  • Secure external research funding and participate in collaborative national and international research initiatives;
  • Foster and strengthen partnerships with mining, exploration, consulting, and broader geoscience industries to enhance teaching, research, student training, and graduate employability;
  • Promote experiential learning opportunities, including field-based teaching and industry-linked activities;
  • Participate in departmental, faculty, and university committees and undertake other academic administrative responsibilities;
  • Contribute to community engagement and professional service activities aligned with the mission of the University.
Requirements
  • A Doctoral degree (PhD) in Geology, with specialization in Petrology from a recognized institution;
  • Demonstrated expertise in Petrology, with specialization or significant experience in Metamorphic Petrology being a distinct advantage;
  • Evidence of sustained teaching excellence at tertiary level across a range of geology modules;
  • Experience in curriculum design, review, and programme development;
  • A strong record of research and scholarly publications appropriate for appointment at Associate Professor level;
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision;
  • Evidence of successful grant acquisition, research collaboration, and project leadership will be an added advantage;
  • Established professional networks and meaningful engagement with the mining and geoscience industries, with a proven track record of collaboration considered highly desirable;
  • Registration with relevant professional bodies, where applicable, will be advantageous.
