- Job Description
The Professor/Associate Professor: Marine Engineering will provide visionary academic and research leadership for Marine Engineering within the School of Manufacturing Engineering and Technology. The incumbent will lead the development and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supervise Master's and doctoral research, establish internationally recognised marine engineering research centres and laboratories, attract significant external research funding, publish high-impact research, and build strategic partnerships with government, industry, ports, maritime organisations, offshore energy companies, marine mining operators, and international universities. The Professor will lead curriculum innovation aligned with international maritime standards, mentor academic staff, provide technical consultancy and policy advice, contribute to institutional governance and quality assurance, and champion multidisciplinary research addressing Namibia's priorities in the Blue Economy, offshore resource development, sustainable shipping, marine manufacturing, maritime logistics, and green hydrogen export infrastructure. The incumbent will be expected to position the University of Namibia as a leading African institution in marine engineering education, research, innovation, and technology transfer while contributing to national industrialisation and economic transformation.
- Requirements
- Should be in possession of a PhD in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Engineering, or a closely related field. Seagoing engineering experience, marine certification, or qualifications in the maritime industry will be advantageous.
- Professor: With at least three (3) years of service as Associate Professor and satisfactory contribution in teaching, research and publication, and service to the academic and wider community. A cumulative and sustained record of twenty-five (25) publications, of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since attaining the grade of Associate Professor; Of these, at least six (6) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.
- Associate Professor: Should be in possession of a relevant PhD degree. Three (3) years of service as Senior Lecturer and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to the academic and wider community. A cumulative record of seventeen (17) publications, of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since becoming Senior Lecturer; Of these, at least three (3) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.
