Job Description

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in the fields of Fabrication Engineering, Manufacturing Systems, and Industrial Applications Engineering. Key responsibilities will include designing and delivering high-quality courses in fabrication technologies, manufacturing systems, production engineering, digital manufacturing, industrial operations, and manufacturing optimization. The role will also involve supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, establishing and managing advanced manufacturing systems and digital factory laboratories, and conducting impactful research in areas such as manufacturing productivity, industrial systems integration, smart factories, lean manufacturing, and digital transformation. The incumbent is expected to attract external research funding and build strong partnerships with industry. Additionally, they will support innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives and provide technical consultancy services. A central objective of this position is to contribute to the development of efficient, sustainable, and globally competitive manufacturing systems that align with Namibia’s goals for industrialization, value addition, infrastructure development, and broader economic transformation.

Requirements

Should be in possession of a Mechanical Engineering PhD degree, specialized in Fabrication and 
Applications Engineering. Three (3) years of service as Senior Lecturer and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to the academic and wider community. A cumulative record of seventeen (17) publications, of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since becoming Senior Lecturer; of these, at least three (3) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.
