The incumbent will provide academic and research leadership in Welding Engineering and Advanced Joining Technologies. Key responsibilities include designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate courses in welding processes, welding metallurgy, welding automation, welding quality management, and advanced joining technologies.
The role also involves supervising postgraduate students and industry-based projects, leading cutting-edge research in welding technologies, structural integrity, hydrogen-compatible welding systems, and sustainable fabrication processes. Additionally, the incumbent will establish and manage modern welding laboratories and research facilities.
The position requires securing external research funding, fostering strong national and international collaborations, and supporting International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification activities. Active engagement with industry partners is essential to contribute to the advancement of Namibia’s manufacturing, mining, marine, energy, and green hydrogen sectors through teaching, research, innovation, consultancy, and technology transfer.- Requirements
- Should be in possession of a Mechanical Engineering PhD degree, specialized in Welding Engineering.
- Three (3) years of service as Senior Lecturer and a satisfactory record of teaching, research and publications, and service to the academic and wider community.
- A cumulative record of seventeen (17) publications, of which seven (7) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and must have been published since becoming Senior Lecturer; Of these, at least three (3) of the publications must be refereed journal articles.
