Job Description

The incumbent will be responsible for teaching, research, postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, and industry engagement in the field of marine engineering and maritime technologies. The incumbent will develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in marine engineering, marine propulsion systems, ship machinery, offshore engineering, marine energy systems, marine maintenance, and maritime technologies; supervise undergraduate projects, industry based projects, Master's dissertations, and assist in doctoral supervision; contribute to curriculum review and development in line with international maritime standards and emerging industry trends; establish and support marine engineering laboratories, workshops, and simulation facilities; conduct research and publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals; participate in collaborative research projects and secure external funding where possible; engage with maritime industries, ports, shipbuilding and repair facilities, marine mining operations, offshore energy developers, and government agencies; provide technical consultancy and professional services; contribute to quality assurance, accreditation, and academic administration activities; mentor junior academic staff and students; and support Namibia's Blue Economy Strategy, maritime industrialisation, offshore resource development, sustainable shipping initiatives, and green hydrogen export infrastructure through teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.

Requirements
  • Should be in possession of a PhD or Master's in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Maritime Engineering, or a closely related field. Seagoing engineering experience, marine certification, or maritime industry qualifications will be advantageous. 
  • Candidates in possession of a PhD (Doctorate Degree): At least three (3) years of service as Lecturer and satisfactory record of teaching, research and publication, and service to the academic and wider community; At least four (4) publications of which two (2) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and of which two (2) must have been publish since attaining the rank of Lecturer.
  • Candidates in possession of a Master’s degree: At least three (3) years of service as a Lecturer and satisfactory record of teaching, research and publication and service to the academic and wider community; At least seven (7) publications of which three (3) must be refereed scholarly research outputs and at least four (4) must have been published since attaining the grade of Lecturer.
