Job Description

Teaching modules/subjects such as BVM IV Wildlife Clinical Studies I, BVM V Wildlife Clinical Studies II, BVM VI - Wildlife electives inclusive of field trips. Development and provision of short courses to the Namibian veterinary profession. Development and provision of veterinary training opportunities for international veterinary students. Undertaking the clinical treatment and care of wild animals in the field and at the Neudamm bomas. Development of clinical services to the public (e.g. passive capture, chemical immobilization, wild animal translocation, quarantine prior to export). Carry out relevant wildlife veterinary research. Supervision of Master’s programmes .Supervision of undergraduate research projects and preform any other related duties as may be required. 

Requirements

Veterinarian with a BVM (or equivalent) in veterinary medicine/science, and a minimum of 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the field of wildlife veterinary medicine. This should include veterinary experience in large wild mammals, conservation/national protected area medicine, game ranch medicine, human wildlife conflict mitigation and physical and chemical capture. Qualifications should be registered or registrable with the Namibian Veterinary Council (NVC), including NVC “Additional registration category - Wildlife”.  An MSc in clinical wildlife veterinary practice or a related field is desirable.  Excellent proficiency in English (read, speak and write).  Current driver’s licence. Good human relation skills, supervisory skills and organizational skills. Prepared to travel, and to live and operate under field (camp) conditions for limited periods.
