Job Description

The incumbent is responsible for the overall leadership, efficient and effective management of grants and strategic projects of the University. The incumbent will develop an Institutional Strategy for securing research grants and mobilising resources for the University in line with the University’s Vision and Mission, and meet targets/KPIs for successful grant applications and associated 3rd stream income as set out in the University Strategic Plan. 

Support the PVC: Research, Innovation and Development to ensure the Centre is strategically positioned within the national research, science, technology and innovation framework; Develop and maintain effective relationships with external entities including local and international organisations, national government and industry, regarding grants-related and resource mobilisation initiatives. 

The incumbent is expected to develop and maintain effective system processes and protocols for managing existing grantor relationships and grants, including tracking methods, reviews, monitoring and evaluation; Facilitate transparency in managing donor-funded programmes and projects, and conduct process improvement initiatives with each grantor/funder and grantee after each grant to identify opportunities for improvement in future grant applications. 

The Director: Centre for Grants Management and Resource Mobilisation is responsible for the effective and efficient academic leadership, governance, fostering an innovative work culture amongst staff and students, necessary to advance each component of UNAM’s mission and strategy in line with the Institution’s values.

Requirements

1. The candidate should at least be at the rank of a Senior Lecturer and hold a PhD degree coupled with at least three (3) years’ experience in managing grants, research and/ or innovation projects and resource mobilisation initiatives. 

2. Proven track record of successful income generation through grants, resource mobilisation and related projects. 

3. Substantial financial and/or business management experience that demonstrates successful strategic planning, implementation of projects and resource mobilisation initiatives. 

4. Experience in effective nurturing of stakeholder relations, particularly University-industry linkages, and between public service, private sector and donors. 

5. Evidence of commitment towards realising the university’s vision, mission, and strategic goals through high standards of research, resource mobilisation and community services must be provided. 

6. The following key skills are required: managerial and leadership skills; interpersonal and ability to mentor; business acumen; resource   mobilisation, research, and grant writing skills. 

7. The successful candidate should be a strong individual who commands respect from his/her peers, and has outstanding interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, combined with excellent digital fluency, organising, planning, analytical, fundraising, administrative and managerial skills and an understanding of the national and international roles of universities. 

8. The candidates have to submit a paper (max. of 3-4 typed pages) on his/her vision, mission and strategic goals over the next five (5) years and provide efficient and effective services to the University, Campuses, Faculties and the Centre.
